Daniel Phoenix Singh

Daniel Phoenix Singh earned the MFA in dance at University of Maryland. He established Dakshina/Daniel Phoenix Singh Dance as a nonprofit in Washington, DC, in 2003. The company performs a varied repertory of restaged classics (especially Anna Sokolow works staged by Lorry May and funded by NEA), bharatanatyam, modern/postmodern choreography of Singh, and commissioned works. Daniel curates an annual Festival of Indian Dance, now celebrating its 11th year, which brings acclaimed Indian dance artists and their companies (including musicians). Daniel and his company have received numerous awards, including the prestigious Founder's Award for Innovation in DC Dance and a Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation touring award which supported his company's tour in Bangladesh and India. Daniel also serves as systems administrator for the American Association of Colleges and Universities.
