Step 2: Refining Your Search
At the top and bottom of the browse screen are options to further refine your search:
Start over: Returns you to the main menu in the Dance Catalog.
Another search: Returns you to the same index (i.e., subject) in which you just
searched.
Word Search: In an author, subject, or title search, allows you to perform the
same search using the words index.
Limit/Sort: Narrows your search about a person or subject. The terms used to
limit the search are based on codes in the catalog record:
- Limit by material type:
- Printed material: published books, programs, clippings, articles,microfilm
- Archival material: unpublished manuscripts, transcripts, manuscript
collections
- Printed music: published music scores
- Ms music: unpublished/handwritten music scores
- Print map: published/printed maps
- Ms map: unpublished/hand-drawn maps
- Proj medium: films, video recordings, slides
- Spoken word: sound recordings of oral histories, interviews, speeches
- Sound record: sound recordings of music, sound effects
- 2-D graphic: photographs, paintings, drawings, slides, prints, designs
- Computer file: CD-Roms, diskettes
- 3-D object: artifacts, sculptures, medals
- Limit by year of publication
- Limit by language
- Limit by words in the author, title, or subject
Other options listed across the top and bottom of the display facilitate your
search:
Extended display: Shows the title, call number, and sometimes material format
of the item(s) listed. Brief display returns you back to the index list.
Next page: Takes you to the next page in the list of entries.
Previous page: Returns you to the previous page in the list of entries.
E-mail: Allows you to send the search results to an e-mail address.
From the browse list, click on specific entries to get the full display of the
record(s).
