  • Links to dance libraries and archives may be found at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts Dance Collection website, Selected Dance Resources on the Internet: Research.

  • An excellent directory of archives in the United States that hold a variety of subjects may be found at The National Union Catalog of Manuscript Collections website. Other parts of the NUCMC site describe their ongoing cooperative cataloging program for archives, their earlier published catalogs (1959-1993), Chadwyck-Healy's ArchivesUSA CD-ROM, and a search guide to online cataloging of collections from 1986 forward.

  • The world's largest dance archive is the Dance Collection, New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, which houses thousands of manuscripts, correspondence, contracts and dance company records, in addition to thousands of photographs, prints, designs, and moving image materials.

  • As a member of the Dance Heritage Coalition, New York Public Library's Dance Collection exchanges informaton with other member institutions listed below, which have dance and dance related archives.

    • The Library of Congress (holds Martha Graham Archives, Bob Fosse/Gwen Verdon Collection, Danny Kaye/Sylvia Fine Collection, the Lester Horton Dance Theater Collection, Franziska Boas Collection, the Popescu-Judetz Romanian Folk Dance Collection, and many others)

    • Harvard University (Harvard Theatre Collection, which holds the John Lindquist Collection, the Katherine Litz Papers, The Violette Verdy Papers, the Boston Ballet archives, a Cartes de Visite Collection for Women dancers, French and Italian opera ballet 1694-1904 [collected by Mrs. Raphael Salem], the Sergejev Collection, the Howard D. Rothschild Collection of the Russian Ballets of Serge Diaghilev, and others)

    • Ohio State University (Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee Theatre Research Institute holds the Twyla Tharp Collection and others)

    • Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival (holds records of Jacob's Pillow, Ted Shawn, Denishawn, and Ruth St. Denis)

    • San Francisco Performing Arts Library and Museum (holds Boehm/de Leon Collection on South American Dance, Ethnic Dance Festival Collection, San Francisco Area Dance and Performing Arts Criticism Collection (Alexander Fried), Muriel Stuart material 1915-1936, records of the San Francisco Ballet and others)
